How I Managed My Kid’s Diarrhoea While Being on a Vacation

Holiday travel plans are always exciting, but the one we took on Kyara’s 1st birthday was special. We decided on Singapore and travelled with 3 other couples – 2 of us had kids. There was a lot to pack: Tons of clothes, bibs, diapers, and medicines were stocked for the trip, leaving little room for our stuff in the bag. After a 5-hour flight, we finally landed in The Lion City.

Somewhere around 1 am I heard Kyara crying and I thought it might be the time to feed her. As I held her in my arms, I sensed that she had pooped. The same day, Kyara was constantly crying and no matter what I did, I couldn’t pacify her. By early morning she had passed loose stool several times. This is when I started panicking and suspected that it could be Diarrhoea. I explored the medicine kit only to find out that I didn’t have any medicine for diarrhoea. I rushed to the room where the other couple (who had a kid with them) were sleeping. She came to our rescue as she was carrying Enterogermina. She quickly handed me one and asked me to give it to Kyara.

The first thing I did in the morning was to call our family doctor for some advice. He also suggested that I should give her Enterogermina twice a day and also made me understand how it helps manage Diarrhoea. By God's grace, I did not have to face such an issue again with Kyara, but now I made a point to carry Enterogermina and all the other necessary medicines with me while traveling.

It is important to know what to do if your kid is suffering from diarrhoea:

  1. Probiotics:-

Probiotics are basically live bacteria that are good for the digestive system, and they play a key role to keep the gut healthy and help manage Diarrhoea
  1. Foods to Avoid:-

  • Coarse fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grain cereals
  • Very dilute soups
  • Foods with a lot of sugar
  • Aerated drinks
  • Fried or junk food
  • Processed food
  1. Visit to a Paediatrician:-

Diarrhoea can often be managed at home with known remedies and the right diet. However, if diarrhoea lasts more than two days with no improvement, or there has been severe dehydration, it’s important to get prompt treatment. Some of the primary symptoms include increase in frequency of loose motions, nausea & abdominal pain.

While I always hope that no one faces this issue that I faced with my daughter’s upset tummy, it’s important to take precautions and know the right way forward in the situation.

Enterogermina has now become a must-have in my travel kit so that I can enjoy those precious moments with Kyara.
