Female Speaker : Worldwide, probiotics for diarrhoea have been used for millennia, thanks to their wide-ranging health benefits. What are probiotics? Probiotics are living microorganisms—bacteria and yeast—that confirm their beneficial effects once they reach the gastrointestinal tract. [00.20]
In order to reach the gut, however, they first have to survive the harsh, acidic conditions of the stomach. Once in the gut, they need to adhere to the intestinal mucosa where they can then multiply and start colonizing.
